3 years down with Coalfields Backyard Ultra! The 2025 race was one for the ages, with several participants breaking the course record. Eventually, our female winner, Joelle Fenton from New York ran 125 miles. 6 runners broke the course record.
In honor of our heritage and culture of the region, we want to call the race the “Coalfields Backyard Ultra.” This down-and-back course starts and ends at our local community college.
West Virginia’s only backyard ultra. We are in the process of getting a bronze status for 2026
