I’m Still Standing Sydney was back at Heffron Park, Maroubra on Saturday 15 March 2025. This was the second edition of our backyard ultra in the Eastern Suburbs and what an incredible weekend we had! The weather conditions were not what you would normally want to run a backyard ultra (or any type of run for that matter), with temperatures in the high 30’s (Celsius) and the Saturday night has gone down as the hottest March night in 110 years. But this did not deter our runners. We had 130 runners toe the start line and the positive vibes, energy, banter and camaraderie was next level. We are still in awe of every single runner who challenged themselves yard and yard, many achieving distance personal bests – a true testament to the strength, determination, grit and resilience that all of the runners displayed throughout the event. And a huge shout out to all the support crew, volunteers, partners and spectators who helped to make it happen.
As we know, a backyard ultra is a unique race format, especially given that everyone is a DNF (did not finish) except for the last one standing. We are incredible proud and were inspired throughout by all of the runners and the number of yards they completed. The final results were:
- Our last one standing was Mitch McInnes running 40 yards (268.2km), this was Mitch’s second year at our event and an impressive PB from last year where he completed 32 yards.
- Our assist Jon Berry with 39 yards (261.5km), running 3 yards more than last year where he was our last one standing with 36 yards
- A special shout out to our last female standing, Chelsea Murphy, with 27 yards (181.1km), another outstanding PB over 2024 where she completed 17 yards.
- And finally, we were thrilled to witness 5 more runners achieve distance and yard PB’s, all surpassing the 200km distance with Louie Minnet and Jean Prill both running 30 yards (201.2km), Clayton Talbot and Kris Mccullough both running 31 yards (297.9km), Shane Koziwoda completing 32 yards (214.6km).
