The Backyard Ultra – A Personal Endurance Challenge
How far can you push yourself? The Backyard Ultra isn’t about racing others – it’s about finding your limits, one loop at a time. Come and see how many laps you can complete… you might just surprise yourself.
Over the past three years, we’ve seen runners smash personal bests and achieve incredible milestones:
-
First half marathons
-
First marathons
-
First 100Ks
-
First 100 milers
This format opens the door to big distances for every runner. Whether you’re chasing a new milestone or simply testing your endurance, the Backyard is the perfect stage.
Our current course record stands at 30 laps, set by George Jones, ably assisted by Eddie, and semi assist by Oli who won in the previous year.
What’s Included
-
Camping: Free for runners and their crew, available from Friday.
-
Hair Plaiting Service: Yes, really! Popular with past participants, our “battle braids” are back by demand. It’s free to use – donations to charity are welcomed.
Running for a Cause
Every entry supports a local charity. Over the last four years, this event has raised an average of £4,000 per year. Once supplier costs are covered, every remaining penny goes directly to the charity.
We’re a small team of two volunteers – and ultrarunners ourselves:
-
Becky: Handles race admin, promotion, and ensures you’re safe on the day.
-
John: Had the idea to bring the Backyard format to Devon & Cornwall, and designs the incredible route. (One runner even called it “the best Backyard Ultra route they’ve ever done – the perfect balance of technical trails and stunning views.”)
So lace up, camp out, and find your limit – all while supporting a fantastic cause.
